This seminar will discuss the recent Statutory and Caselaw changes regarding Arizona Homeowners Association. Special areas of emphasis include case law changes concerning amending governing documents and enforcement concerns.

Jonathan practices in Arizona and California state and federal courts. He is an experienced, aggressive trial lawyer who has represented clients in countless jury and bench trials. Jonathan is one of the few lawyers in Arizona who routinely represent homeowners in HOA disputes. He devotes a substantial part of his practice to representing owners in HOA collection and foreclosure actions, CC&R enforcement and violations, election and governance issues, and construction issues. He also represents clients in real estate, employment law, civil and commercial litigation, employment law, and consumer law matters.
IV, Esq., CCAL is the founding member of Shaw & Lines, LLC where he advises community associations, timeshare associations, non-profit corporations, real estate developers, businesses and other clients on matters involving general real estate, bankruptcy, housing discrimination, employment, insurance defense and litigation matters. Augustus has served the community association industry nationally as a Member of the College of Community Association Lawyers Board of Governors and in Arizona by serving as a Board Member and Vice President of the Central Arizona Chapter of the Community Associations Institute. Augustus currently serves his community as Vice President of the Board of Directors of Tempe Preparatory Academy and as a Board Member of the Alisanos Community Association. Augustus, a fellow of the College of Community Lawyers, is a frequent local and national author and lecturer. He received his Bachelor of Arts (1996) and his Juris Doctor (2000) from the University of Arizona. He is licensed to practice law before the State Supreme Court of the State of Arizona, the State Supreme Court of the State of Nebraska, the Unites States District Courts of Arizona and Nebraska and the United States Tax Court. Augustus, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, is an avid golfer and when not practicing law or engaging in community service, can be found with his sons on the golf course.
Quinten joined Vial Fotheringham LLP in 2013, having represented planned communities and condominiums throughout Arizona for the past five years. During that time, he assisted associations in various matters, including assessment collection, insurance defense, civil litigation, CC&R enforcement matters, bankruptcy, interpreting and amending governing documents, foreclosure lawsuits, fair housing complaints, and general counsel matters. Quinten received his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University and his J.D. from University of Toledo College of Law. When he is not working, Quinten spends as much time as possible with his family. He is an avid golfer, loves swimming and sports, and enjoys reading. Having grown up near Cincinnati, Ohio, he is a big fan of the Reds and Bengals but has also become a fan of the Suns.
Esq. of Goldschmidt|Shupe, PLLC has been a licensed attorney since 2009 practicing nearly exclusively in the area of common-interest community association law in Arizona. He regularly advises planned community and condominium associations, cooperative housing corporations, and other common-interest communities and non-profit corporations on a wide variety of issues including covenant enforcement, assessment collection, association governance and best-practices, and general real estate matters. Michael regularly participates in lectures on community association law and relevant issues, and provides comprehensive education and instruction to common-interest community volunteer leaders and community management professionals. Michael has also served on the Board of Directors for the Southern Arizona Chapter of the Community Associations Institute (now CAI Arizona), and currently serves as a chapter delegate and co-chair of CAI Arizona’s Legislative Action Committee. He received his Bachelor of Arts (2005) and Juris Doctor (2009) from the University of Arizona.
