DEAN FORMANEK is a principal with the Phoenix law firm of WARNER ANGLE HALLAM JACKSON & FORMANEK PLC, concentrating his practice in the areas of commercial and real estate transactions, finance, commercial leasing, deed of trust sales, receiverships and loan workouts. Mr. Formanek received his B.B.A. degree from the University of Iowa in 1980 and graduated from the University of Iowa law school with distinction in 1983. Mr. Formanek was admitted to the bar in 1983, along with the Arizona and U.S. District Court, District of Arizona. He is a member of the State Bar of Arizona Real Property Section and Corporation, Banking & Business Law Section, a member of the Arizona Trustee Association, a member of the American Bar and Maricopa Bar Associations, and a Fellow in the American College of Mortgage Attorneys. Ms. Gilman received her B.B.A. in Accounting from the University of San Diego in 1980, and her J.D. degree from Arizona State University College of Law in 1982. Ms. Gilman has represented many banks and non-bank financial institutions, private lenders and investors including: Bank of America, National Association (and affiliates including Bank of America, NT & SA, Bank of America Community Development Bank, and Bank of America, FSB); U.S. Bank, National Association; National Bank of Arizona, National Association; KeyBank National Association; Wells Fargo Bank, National Association; Bank of the West; California Bank & Trust; Kirkwood Bank; Silver State Bank; Business Bank of Nevada; Community Bank; Commercial Capital Bank, F.S.B.; Silicon Valley Bank; Valley Independent Bank; Rabobank, N.A.; Bank Southwest; The Low Income Investment Fund; Nonprofit Finance Fund; Marin Community Foundation; and Phoenix Residential Investment and Development Effort (P.R.I.D.E.). Ms. Gilman was a shareholder and the Chair of the Finance and Banking Practice Group at Gordon Silver, Ltd. from August, 2012 to May, 2013, also having served as the Managing Shareholder of the Phoenix office, and Arizona transaction practice leader. She was a shareholder and the chair of the Finance Practice Group at Jaburg & Wilk, P.C. from 1999-2005, then formed Gilman Law Offices, P.C. in 2005 and continued her practice, representing multiple banks, non-bank financial institutions, and private lenders and investors in commercial, real estate, and finance related transactions. Ms. Gilman was a Senior Counsel in the Phoenix Legal Department of Bank of America from 1992-1999, where she was responsible for legal services for the Bank of America Community Development Bank and Bank of America FSB - Community Development Division nationally, for dealer corporate services in the Southwest Region, and for legal services relating to real estate, problem loans, workout, and bankruptcy in the Southwest Region. During her tenure at Bank of America, she worked on local, regional, and national forms development for the bank, and created and coordinated various finance-related training programs and workshops for the Bank. Prior to joining Bank of America in 1992, she was in private practice, representing lenders and business clients, in a wide variety of finance, real estate, and commercial transactions. In addition to the practice of law, Ms. Gilman has been active in land investment and development, serving as the President of Desert Canyon Development since 1986. Ms. Gilman served on the Board of Directors of Bank of Scottsdale (In Organization), and has been an Administrative Judge Pro Tem for the State of Arizona Department of Real Estate. She is currently on the Executive Council of the State Bar of Arizona Real Property Section, having been a two-time past Chair of that section, and is also a past Vice Chair/Real Estate Subcommittee Chair of the CLE Committee of the Maricopa County Bar Association. Ms. Gilman also served on the faculty of the Arizona School of Real Estate from 1987-1992. She lectures extensively, having chaired and lectured at over 130 programs since 1990 on a wide variety of topics related to negotiations, real estate and commercial law, finance and banking law, and bankruptcy/creditor’s rights. Ms. Gilman is currently the Chair of the Board of Directors of Citizenship Counts, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to educating middle and high school students on American citizenship, and encouraging them to participate in community service, by providing a multi-disciplinary curriculum to schools and bringing community-based naturalization ceremonies to school settings. She is also a member of the Community Board of Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, which supports the law school’s annual Gold N’ Gavel event, and an Ambassador of the College of Law. Ms. Gilman has served on the Board of Directors of several non-profit organizations, including Actors Theatre of Phoenix, COMPAS (Combined Metropolitan Arts and Sciences), Toby House, Inc., a non-profit providing affordable housing and services to the mentally handicapped, and Volunteer Nonprofit Service Association (VNSA).
