Jared G Keenan
is the Legal Director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona where he oversees the ACLU of Arizona’s litigation docket focusing on criminal legal reform, LGBTQ+ equality, immigrants’ rights, voting rights, and protecting the rights enshrined in the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Jared litigates in both state and federal court, including the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. After graduating from Boston University School of Law, Jared worked as a public defender in Boston, Massachusetts and in Mohave and Yavapai counties in Arizona before joining the ACLU of Arizona. As a public defender, Jared represented individuals charged with serious felony offenses, including capital murder. He also represented criminal defendants on appeal and through Special Actions, arguing several times before the Arizona Court of Appeals and the Arizona Supreme Court. Jared often speaks at state and national conferences on important civil rights and civil liberties issues and recently published “Beyond Bordenkircher's Boundaries: Challenging Coercive Plea Bargaining in the Maricopa County Early Disposition Court System” in the Ohio State Journal of Criminal Law. He is also a Past-President of Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice (AACJ).
