The Nuts & Bolts of Trade Secrets is an introduction to Arizona and U.S. trade secrets law. The seminar will provide a primer for anyone new to trade secrets law or who simply requires a refresher on the topic. Topics will include the basics of trade secrets, obtaining trade secret protection, protecting trade secrets, enforcing rights in trade secrets, trade secret litigation, trade secret remedies, trade secret licensing/transactions, the interplay between trade secrets and employment law, and practical considerations/best practices in dealing with trade secrets.

Gray focuses on complex business and intellectual property disputes and advises well-known technology clients across the country. John has special emphasis in trade secret litigation and counseling, serving as counsel for both plaintiffs and defendants on multiple high-risk and prominent trade secret litigations, as well as regularly advising clients on managing trade secret risk. Bringing a considerable amount of litigation experience to his counsel, John regularly advises clients on mitigating litigation risk, including in areas of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. Kristie regularly helps companies navigate internal employment issues, and clients trust her to handle sensitive matters. A litigator by training, Kristie has experience with all stages of civil litigation and assists clients in litigating commercial and other disputes in addition to employment-related matters. She is particularly skilled at shepherding a case through the discovery process with an eye toward resolution before trial and has secured complete dismissals for multiple clients at the dispositive motion stage. In connection with her litigation practice, which spans a wide range of industries, Kristie frequently assists clients with investigating complaints of wrongdoing, from employee misconduct to compliance issues and whistleblower complaints. On multiple occasions, Kristie has been seconded to clients with intensive, short-term employment and/or litigation needs. As a result of these secondments, Kristie has a firsthand appreciation for the diverse responsibilities and priorities of in-house legal departments. These experiences guide Kristie’s efforts to help her clients develop practical and effective strategies for both addressing and preventing legal issues.
