's practice concentrates in the areas of liquor law and commercial litigation. For over 25 years, Schelstraete has been a sole practitioner representing clients ranging from Fortune 100 Companies to Mom and Pop operations in compliance actions, administrative hearings, special actions (both discretionary and nondiscretionary) and Appeals at all levels, forfeiture and seizure of liquor licenses, assists in the buying or selling of liquor licensed businesses and liquor licenses. For fifteen years, he wrote a monthly column entitled the "Legal Corner", in the Arizona Beverage Analyst, a trade magazine for the Arizona Liquor Industry. He is originally from Chicago, Illinois, was a licensed CPA in that state and a graduate of Arizona State University Law School in 1989. He has two published Arizona Court of Appeal decisions, both favorable to the Arizona liquor industry; (Determining the standard for obtaining stays pending an administrative decision on appeal) and (Determining the statutory disclosure requirement for non-parties at fault).
Mr. Rhodes has an extensive background in legal ethics. He regularly advises attorneys and law firms in matters relating to State Bar complaints, fee disputes, disciplinary matters, bar admission and other licensing, ethics, and professional responsibility issues. In addition, Mr. Rhodes currently serves as the firm's General Counsel, and previously held the position of Managing Attorney from December 2009 to May 2015. Under Mr. Rhodes’ leadership, Jennings, Strouss & Salmon ranked #1 in the United States in Ethics and Professional Responsibility Law by The Best Lawyers in America ® 2010, and #1 in Arizona in 2011. The Best Lawyers in America® named Mr. Rhodes as the 2011 Phoenix Administrative Lawyer of the Year and Phoenix Ethics and Professional Responsibility Law Lawyer of the Year 2013. Mr. Rhodes is an Adjunct Professor at Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law teaching Professional Responsibility.
