Sarah Benatar

Sarah Benatar has been serving as Coconino County Treasurer since 2014, becoming the youngest County Treasurer in the history of Arizona. Since coming to office, she has received national recognition for her work in government finance and treasury management, speaking nationally with organizations such as Governing and testifying before Congress. In 2023 she was named the National Government Controller of the Year by the Controllers Council, recognizing her as a national leader for her work in treasury and financial management.

Sara holds several national leadership roles, including the 2nd Vice President of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO), President of the National Association of Hispanic County Elected Officials (NAHCO), and on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Counties (NACo). As a national leading voice for fiscal management, she is the current national chair of NACo's Fiscal Policy and Pensions subcommittee.

Sarah comes to the county with years of professional experience in the public sector, having worked for United Way of Northern Arizona, the National Park Service, NASA, and DNA People’s Legal Services. She attended the University of Michigan for her undergraduate career, the University of Oregon for law school, and the University of Missouri for public finance certification. Her commitment to financial accountability led her to be the first Treasurer in the state to hold the Certified Government Investment Professional (CGIP) certification. She is also the recipient of the 2023 Arizona Capitol Times Rising Star Award, the IRS Community Service Leadership Award, the Young Athena Award, and is a fellow of the American Council of Young Political Leaders.
