Mariela Shibley

A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, I immigrated to the US in 1991. I received my professional training from the University of California, Los Angeles, and the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, San Diego. I completed post-doctoral training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the San Diego Psychoanalytic Center (SDPC) and at the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis, and I am currently a candidate in SDPC's adult psychoanalytic program. * To learn about psychoanalysis, click HERE.

I have had a broad clinical psychotherapy experience in various mental health settings throughout San Diego, offering both inpatient and outpatient mental health services. I have also conducted professional trainings and public presentations on various subjects, such as immigration, acculturation, trauma, and coping with anxiety, stress, and depression. As a member of the Postpartum Health Alliance, I also work with expecting women and new parents, assisting with postpartum depression and other perinatal mood disorders. I am fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.

Aside from my private practice, I am adjunct faculty at the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University and have taught doctoral and master's level courses at Argosy University San Diego and at the California School of Forensic Studies. I am also an active member of the American Psychological Association, the California Psychological Association, and the San Diego Psychological Association, where I serve on the Board of Directors.

I am passionate about what I do and I am constantly striving to grow both professionally and personally. Helping others understand themselves better and improve their quality of life is my main goal, and I do so by nurturing a safe and supportive environment with all of my patients.
