Lisa M. McKnight was a founding member of Salmon, Lewis & Weldon, P.L.C., specializing in natural resources law, environmental law and water rights litigation. In her eighteen years of practice, Ms. McKnight has litigated cases on behalf of municipalities, public utilities and water providers involving alleged violations of the Endangered Species Act, as well as the National Environmental Policy Act, and other federal environmental laws as well as state laws affecting land and water use. Ms. McKnight regularly assists clients in the preparation of habitat conservation plans and associated applications for a permit authorizing the “take” of species listed as endangered or threatened under the Endangered Species Act, where take is incidental to the client’s otherwise lawful activities. As part of the permitting process, Ms. McKnight has negotiated with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service regarding permit terms, the provisions of the habitat conservation plan, and the terms of any implementing agreement to be entered into by the client and the Service.
