Lauri J. Owen is a Southern Arizona trial attorney specializing in juvenile dependency and family law matters. Lauri previously served as the Deputy Director of the Alaska State Commission for Human Rights, the Alaska Governor’s agency assigned to investigate and prosecute civil rights violations across Alaska. Among that role’s many duties, she trained investigators, legislators, businesses, and the public in anti-discrimination laws, and she litigated complex discrimination cases in every forum. During the 14 years before law school, Lauri worked as a Deputy Sheriff in Idaho where she won, and believes she still holds, the top sharpshooter award. Lauri holds a B.A. in Psychology/Sociology, an M.A. in Communication, and a J.D. from UC, Berkeley. She is barred in AK, AZ, the FDAZ, and the 9th Circuit. Lauri is qualified to provide grief counseling, and is an expert DV/SA, PTSD/C-PTSD, and civil rights, including in all areas of discrimination. Lauri is also a human trafficking survivor and an alum of the foster care system. Lauri has been teaching myriad topics related to her expertise to professionals and community members, especially including first responders, for more than twenty years, and her presentations are always free.
