Jacob L Sherrard

is licensed to practice law in Arizona and California and has practiced before federal and state courts in both jurisdictions as lead counsel in complex civil litigation matters. Mr. Sherrard began his professional career during the heightened period of construction defect litigation in 2002 and defended several nationally recognized general contractors in complex litigation matters, including several class actions. In 2004 Mr. Sherrard joined Jennings, Strouss & Salmon where he broadened his practice to include a variety of commercial litigation matters with a heavy emphasis on litigation involving the power of eminent domain. During his tenure at Jennings, Mr. Sherrard represented the property owners in the Tempe Marketplace matter. The case was the subject of intense local scrutiny as it was the first attempt by a municipality in the State of Arizona to condemn property for the purposes of economic redevelopment after the Federal Supreme Court's ruling in Kelo v. City of New London, which itself was the subject of intense national scrutiny and debate. Mr. Sherrard represented the property owners throughout the course of the litigation securing a victory at the trial level and protecting same under the review of the Arizona Supreme Court.
In 2012 Mr. Sherrard joined Kutak Rock where he focused his commercial litigation skills in the creditor's rights arena as an equity partner with the firm. During his tenure at Kutak Rock, Mr. Sherrard served as lead trial counsel for a number of files involving extremely complex asset protection plans which included juridical entities domiciled in Canada, Honk Kong, and the Seychelle Islands with amounts in controversy of $100 million. Recently, Mr. Sherrard resigned from the partnership at Kutak Rock to form Vegvisir Legal Group, PLLC. Vegvisir's mission is to provide practical counsel to clients to help them identify when legal services are required and how to deploy same in a cost-effective manner that meets the client's actual needs.
