Description

Substance abuse continues to be a growing problem; it impacts clients, their families and lawyers.  Lawyers encounter clients with substance abuse issues in every practice area.  Substance abuse also impacts those involved in the court system.  But it’s not just “those other people;” US legal professionals demonstrate higher than anticipated rates of problem drinking and alcohol abuse and a significant number of lawyers report misuse of prescription and other drugs.  Join our faculty in exploring the myriad of ways in which substance abuse impacts lawyers and the practice of law, including:

- How casual use differs from abuse or addiction
- Treatments available for substance abuse
- Warning signs of a potential problem
- How to approach people who are addicted or have addictive tendencies
- How substance abuse plays out in court, particularly in juvenile and family court
- How substance abuse impacts the lawyer admissions and lawyer discipline processes
