Description

Human rights and social justice are fundamental values of America and the American legal system. They have become a rallying cry for a great variety of groups and interests, many of whom disagree as to their meaning and policy implications. In an attempt to clarify the nature and meaning of these fundamental values, this CLE addresses the religious origins and historical meaning of these concepts, and it explores recent legal developments in the ongoing intersection of religious liberty and anti-discrimination laws.

What You’ll Learn:

1. The Religious Foundations of Human Rights: How our national and international concepts of human rights and social justice are grounded in religious faith and religious principles
2. Race and Religion: How religious faith and principles have played an important part in America’s history of racial discord, including slavery, abolitionism and civil rights
3. Human Rights and Social Justice Update: How recent court opinions have clarified the issues surrounding the ongoing intersection of religious liberty and anti-discrimination laws
