Ethics Café: ER 1.1

A Bimonthly Ethics Update
This new installment of the Ethics Cafe will address ER 1.1, which requires that lawyers provide “competent representation” to a client. What constitutes requisite legal knowledge, skill, thoroughness and preparation? How does a lawyer become competent or maintain competency? And what do this rule, malpractice and ineffective assistance of counsel have in common?
