Description

In this program, we will explore the legal, statutory and documentary framework for basic estate planning, including exploring various non-probate transfer options for clients with modest means, as well as touching on the administration of decedent's estates.  

Topics will include an overview of estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorneys and living wills.

This program is intended to provide the attendees with a foundational knowledge to aid in the preparation of estate planning documents and assistance with probate administration.

Mr. Shawn Garner is the managing partner at Deason Garner & Hansen Law Firm, where he focuses his practice in the areas of Medicaid, Trusts, and Probate. Mr. Garner earned his Bachelor of Science degree, Summa Cum Laude, from Colorado State University in 2005, followed by his Juris Doctorate from the University of Kentucky Law School in 2008. In 2008, he acquired his law license for both Arizona State and Federal Courts. He obtained his financial planning license (Series 65, Series 66, Series 7) and life insurance (Arizona) licenses in 2015. Furthermore, he became a licensed fiduciary through the Arizona Supreme Court in 2016 and a licensed realtor in 2019. Mr. Garner began his practice as an exclusive estate planning attorney in 2012. Over the years, he has drafted over 5000 wills and trusts. His experience extends to trust administration, probate, and ALTCS/Medicaid matters. Mr. Garner has been a partner Deason Garner & Hansen since 2013. Additionally, he is a Professional Alliance Partner with Ameriprise Financial since 2016 and has been a partner at DGH Realty, a Real Estate Brokerage, since 2019. Mr. Garner has conducted over 100 seminars for the public on various elder law topics and is a frequent speaker for continuing legal education courses. He hosts a weekly radio show and podcast titled "Life Death and the Law." In the professional sphere, he is an active member of the Probate and Trust Executive Council (PATEC) for the State Bar of Arizona, where he has held positions such as Secretary (2020) and Chair Elect (2023). Furthermore, Mr. Garner is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) since 2013, serving on the Board of the Arizona Chapter in 2021 and 2022. Mr. Garner was raised in Sandpoint, Idaho. He is married with six children. He enjoys spending time on his small family farm, camping, boating, and off-road adventures in the desert.

Adam Hansen is a partner at Deason Garner & Hansen Law Firm, where he focuses his practice in the areas of business planning, trusts, and probate. He received his Bachelor of Science degree at Arizona State University in Tempe and Juris Doctor degree at Arizona Summit Law School in Phoenix. Mr. Hansen began his legal career in Yuma in 2014. He has extensive experience in trust administration, probate, and business planning. Mr. Hansen is a featured presenter in the firm's monthly Estate Planning seminars, where he shares valuable insights with the community. Mr. Hansen is a Partner at DGH Realty, a Real Estate Brokerage. He is licensed with the State Bar of Arizona and with the Arizona Department of Real Estate. Mr. Hansen has presented over 100 seminars to the public on estate planning, and is a frequent speaker at continuing legal education courses on estate planning strategies. He also hosts a weekly radio show, "Life Death and the Law". Mr. Hansen serves on the Board of Directors for Amberly's Place and on the State Bar of Arizona’s Elder Law Section Executive Council. Mr. Hansen was born in Washington State but moved to southeastern Arizona when he was very young. Mr. Hansen lived in Spain for two years shortly after graduating high school, learning about the Spanish culture and language through service. Mr. Hansen met his wife, Jessica, while attending Arizona State University in Tempe. Mr. Hansen and his wife have six children: Dominick, Christian, Isabella (twin), Gabiella (twin), Anabelle and Cambelle. Mr. Hansen enjoys his family time. In addition to a busy law practice, Mr. Hansen is actively involved in his local church.
