Hon. Pendleton Gaines III

Maricopa County Superior Court

Judge Pendleton Gaines was appointed to the Superior Court of Arizona for Maricopa County in 1999. He was assigned to the criminal department in June, 2008. He was a charter member of the Maricopa County complex civil litigation court pilot project initiated by the Arizona Supreme Court in 2003 and served on the pilot project until 2008. He has served as associate presiding family court judge (2001-2003) and as associate presiding civil judge (2003-2005). Judge Gaines is a graduate of the University of Arizona and the University of Virginia School of Law. He practiced with the Phoenix firms of Evans, Kitchel & Jenckes and also Fennemore Craig. Judge Gaines is a Fellow of the American and Arizona Bar Foundations. He serves on the Arizona Commission on Judicial Performance Review and on the State Bar of Arizona committees on civil practice and procedure and professionalism course oversight. He is a member of the American Bar, the National Conference of State Trial and the American College of Business Court Judges. Judge Gaines has been a frequent speaker at educational programs sponsored by his court, the Arizona Judicial College, the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Arizona, the Maricopa County Bar Association, the Arizona Trial Lawyers’ Association, the Arizona Association of Defense Counsel and private firms.
