U.S. Bankruptcy Court


DANIEL P. COLLINS was appointed a Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Arizona, effective as of January 18, 2013. He became the Chief Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Arizona on March 17, 2014. Immediately prior to taking the bench, he was a shareholder of the law firm of Collins, May, Potenza, Baran & Gillespie, P.C., located in Phoenix, Arizona. He received a B.S. in finance and accounting (1980) and J.D. (1983) from the University of Arizona.  He started his legal career with the law firm of Rawlins, Burrus, Lewkowitz & Feinstein, P.C., practicing primarily in the areas of bankruptcy, commercial litigation and commercial transactions.  Dan served on the State Bar of Arizona Subcommittee on the Uniform Fraudulent Transfer Act.  He served as chairman of the Bankruptcy Section of the State of Arizona and was a Lawyer Representative to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. He was a founding member of the Arizona Bankruptcy American Inn of Court. Dan is a presently a member of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges, American Bankruptcy Institute, Arizona Bankruptcy American Inn of Court, Federal Bar Association, National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees, State Bar of Arizona, and Maricopa County Bar. He currently serves on the national board of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the board of the Federal Bar Association’s Phoenix Chapter. He is a member of the University of Arizona Law School Board of Visitors and was one of the founders of the Arizona Bankruptcy American Inn of Court.  Dan and his wife raised their 5 children in Phoenix.
