Hon. Carey Snyder Hyatt became a Superior Court Judge in September 2000 and has served in the Family, Criminal, and Civil Departments. She began a second assignment as a judge on the Family Court in June of 2008, and then served as the Family Court Presiding Judge from in June of 2010 through June of 2013, when she returned to the Family Court bench. Immediately prior to her judicial appointment, she served as a Superior Court Commissioner, and prior to the bench worked as a criminal staff attorney for the Arizona Court of Appeals, as a prosecutor for Maricopa County, and as a prosecutor for Queens County, New York. She received her law degree in 1985 from St. John’s University in New York and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing in 1976 from Arizona State University. Judge Hyatt presided over the Adult Criminal Drug Court and DUI Court for Maricopa County from 1996 through 1999, and again from 2004 through 2007. She helped to begin the Family Drug Court and the Domestic Violence and Mental Health Problem-Solving Courts in 2002 and presided over them through 2007. She served as Vice-President of the Arizona Association of Drug Court Professionals for 2004 and thereafter as an “at large” member of the executive board until 2007. Currently, Judge Hyatt is the Co-Chair of the newly-revived Specialty Courts Committee for the Superior Court and sits as a member of the Family Court Behavioral Health Committee. She has been appointed by Chief Justice Berch to serve as a member of the state-wide Committee on Superior Court and also the Committee on the Impact of Domestic Violence and the Courts. Along with her duties on the Family Court bench, she is again presiding over the Family Drug Court. Judge Hyatt is also serving her first term as a Board Member of the Arizona Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.
