Description

Session introduces the concept of vicarious traumatization that may arise as the result of repeated exposure to traumatic case materials and traumatized clients throughout the course of a legal career.  Risks and protective factors associated with vicarious traumatization will be discussed.  

Information is provided to help you identify, normalize, and intervene to support yourself and your colleagues with this experience.

Holly Salisbury, Psy.D., is President of Maitri Psychological Services, a forensic and clinical private practice specializing in forensic evaluation and consultation services. Evaluations conducted include general psychological evaluations, mitigation evaluations, competency to stand trial evaluations, evaluations of criminal responsibility, psychosexual risk assessments, and evaluations pertaining to the Sexually Violent Person statute. Evaluation and consultation experience related to issues associated with family violence, family homicide, capital offenses, and complex trauma presentations. Evaluations conducted for Federal and State jurisdictions. Consultation provided to attorneys and others involved in forensic issues regarding psychological concepts and how they relate to legal issues. Expert witness testimony provided related to above evaluations. Previously contracted with Arizona Department of Corrections to conduct screening evaluations related to the Sexually Violent Person statute. Psychological and psychosexual evaluation services previously provided to the Department of Child Safety. Individual treatment services provided to adults to address both clinical and forensic issues. Clinical services include addressing issues associated with complex trauma, posttraumatic stress disorder, providing adjunct treatment for individuals on probation and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) treatment.

Dr. Salisbury received her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology Argosy University/Phoenix Campus, her M.A. in Psychology (Clinical Track) from Cleveland State University, and her B.A. in Psychology from Kent State University. She is licensed by the Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners and the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact Commission (PSYPACT).
