Lia Keller is an attorney and a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources. Lia advises a broad spectrum of employers, both public and private, on matters related to labor and employment law. Lia acts as “concierge counsel” for her clients from the hiring of an employee up through termination of employment, with a strong focus on creating solutions before a problem arises. Lia advises employers on proper pay practices, including fluctuating workweeks, overtime reqirements, exemptions from overtime and other Fair Labor Standards Act requirements.
Lia counsels clients on paid time off provisions, unlawful harassment and discrimination, retaliation, leave rights, benefit continuation, terminations of employment and other employment-related issues. Lia creates practical policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal law while tailoring each to specific employer needs. Lia works closely with her clients to draft independent contractor agreements, commission agreements, and other essential documentation.
Lia conducts in-depth investigations for both public and private employers related to allegations of harassment, discrimination, fraud and other matters. Lia represents employer clients in administrative proceedings including those before the ACRD, EEOC, Department of Labor and other actions including the preparation of Responses to Charges of Discrimination and Wage Claims.
Lia is an accomplished trainer, having created more than 65 educational and enjoyable employment law programs. She has conducted varied legal seminars for over 7,000 participants, including Human Resources professionals, Boards of Directors, executives, supervisors, employees, and other attorneys.
Lia is proud to be engaged in the Tucson community, sharing her knowledge, time, and energy with local educational and charitable entities; regularly acting as a volunteer, committee member, or official pro bono legal counsel.
