Update on the International Regulation of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Original Program Date :

*This is a recording of a live seminar from the 2022 State Bar Convention presented by the International Law Section

In this session, highly-awarded AI experts in ethics, biometrics, international AI policy, law, fintech, cognitive psychology, and social media converse about ethical and business challenges posed by the rapid development of AI worldwide. As demonstrated by the recent congressional hearings on the influence of social media giants and the emergence of facial recognition in government operations, artificially intelligent systems increasingly mediate our business and personal connections. The need to enhance regulation of these AI systems, whether at home or abroad, is urgent but raises problems of personal and business privacy as well as ethical and legal strictures on free speech. We must regulate more closely, but at what cost to our online connectivity and personal freedoms? We make the case for and against international regulation of AI and present scenarios in which members of the audience act as corporate counsel to resolve complex AI problems.

What You’ll Learn:
1. The United States’ current proposals for developing and regulating AI and AI ethics
2. New European Union approach to the regulation of AI, highlighting the AI Act draft regulation
3. United Nations’ AI regulations and agreements involving Organization of Economic
Cooperation and Development and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s
(UNESCO) November 2021 agreement on the ethics of AI
4. Ethical AI industry issues and trends facing the international AI business sector and public
Regulators

Adam Wood, Certifiedby.com
As 2nd gen CEO of a global credit & risk management company (with a footprint in 100+ countries) Adam Wood has helped navigate the digital & regulatory challenges of this complex modern economy.

One of his roles was to elevate the groups compliance standards, particularly quality and cyber / data security, so they searched the world for a tool to help them… an ISO9001 / 27001 type implementation, but for SMEs. It didn’t exist.

So he built the origins of Certified By for themselves, and soon realized there was a world of SMEs and nonprofits also in need of a similar solution. A way to democratize risk and essential compliance for Small & Medium Sized Businesses, who are otherwise ignored by enterprise GRC players. To let businesses of all shapes and size to measure, improve and certify themselves to best practice standards of (initially) Workplace Relations, Cyber Security and Sustainability / ESG.
