Martha German
Martha German grew up in Michigan and moved to Arizona in 1974 after graduating from Michigan State University with a BS in Recreation. She worked as a tennis pro and in sports marketing before joining Apple in 1984. Entering Apple as an entry level junior sales representative she exited 23 years later as a VP. She worked primarily in Sales Leadership in every market Apple serviced-- Resellers, Distributors, Small Business and Professional markets, Publishing, Large Corporate Accounts, Value Added Resellers, and finally the last 11 years in the K-12 and University markets.
Education market responsibilities included managing Government Affairs resources in key states. When she retired in 2006 she wanted to apply the skills acquired and experiences she had with Apple to help animals. She’s since settled into her role as a volunteer lobbyist with Humane Voters of Arizona. She’s been married to another animal lover, Carl, for over 51 years and is “dogless" for the first time in over 45 years...but likely not for long!

Karen Michael
Karen Michael was born and raised in Santa Fe and graduated from UNM in Albuquerque with a BSN in Nursing. She is a long-time board member and volunteer legislative coordinator with the Animal Defense League of Arizona, a statewide animal protection organization that has worked for over thirty years to protect and defend animals in our state.
She is also one of the Founders of Humane Voters of Arizona and writes its legislative report card on animal issues each year, candidate questionnaires and provides institutional history on legislative and other issues to many organizations in the local, regional and national humane communities. She hates public speaking more than root canals, but could not pass-up the opportunity to speak at Animal Law Section CLE’s about ADLA’s Legislative Program.

Stephanie Nichols-Young, Law Office of Stephanie Nichols-Young
Stephanie Nichols-Young is an attorney who has been in private practice in Phoenix for over 40 years. She received a B.A. in Radio-TV and a J.D. with distinction from the University of Arizona.
She was founding chair of the Arizona State Bar Animal Law Section and has taught Animal Law as an adjunct professor at both University of Arizona and Arizona State University law schools. She is a member of the board of the University of Arizona Law College Association.
She served as chair of Arizonans Against the Power Grab, the political committee that successfully defeated Proposition 109 in November 2010. She has chaired and served on the steering committee of other ballot measures that focused on protecting the interests of animals.
She is president of the Animal Defense League of Arizona- a statewide animal protection organization. In 2006, it was one of the sponsoring organizations of Proposition 204- the Humane Treatment of Farm Animals Act. Through the Spay/Neuter Hotline, ADLA has sterilized thousands of dogs and cats to help alleviate Arizona’s companion animal overpopulation problem. It Trap Neuter and Returned more than 160,000 cats since March of 2009. ADLA leads a number of coalitions for voter engagement and grassroots lobbying in the animal protection community. It also works to protect wildlife and companion animals through a number of coalitions.
