Hon. Peter J Eckerstrom, Arizona Court of Appeals, Division Two
Honorable Peter J. Eckerstrom was born in St. James, Minnesota, but Arizona has been his home since the age of three.  He graduated from Yale University in 1982 (Magna Cum Laude) with a BA.  He received his JD from Stanford University in 1986 (with Distinction) and a Master of Judicial Studies from Duke Law in 2018.  He acts as a “Professor of Practice” at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, where he periodically teaches a course on the American death penalty.

Judge Eckerstrom was appointed to the Arizona Court of Appeals, Division Two, by Governor Janet Napolitano in 2003.  In July 2014, he became the court’s chief judge, a position he held until July 2019.  He has served on the Commission on Court Technology, the Commission on Judicial Performance Review, the Commission on Minorities in the Judiciary, the Commission on Judicial Conduct, and the Arizona Judicial Council.

Before taking the bench, he served as a Pima County Public Defender and later in private practice with an emphasis on capital litigation.

He is a resident of Tucson, Arizona and has a son, Lars.  Judge Eckerstrom’s interests have included master’s water polo, fantasy baseball, watching his son play basketball, and bird watching.
Beth Capin Beckmann, Chief Staff Attorney, Div. II, Arizona Court of Appeals
is the Chief Staff Attorney at Division Two of the Court of Appeals. She graduated from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law in 1982, and practiced general civil litigation with the law firm of Thayer & Thayer, P.C. in Phoenix until she joined the Court of Appeals as a staff attorney in February 1989. She has served as a judge pro tempore for the Pima County Juvenile Court, has taught seminars on criminal and juvenile law, appeals, special actions, and legal writing, and co-authored the special action section of the Arizona Appellate Handbook. Ms. Beckmann served as staff on the Rule 32 Task Force, and served on the Civil Practice and Procedure Committee, the Appellate Case Processing Implementation Task Force, the Juvenile Subcommittee of the Court Improvement Program, the Arizona Supreme Court's Committee on Juvenile Appeals: Delay Reduction/Best Practices, and most recently, the Juvenile Rules Task Force.
Geri Mose Mahrt, Staff Attorney, Arizona Court of Appeals - Division Two
is a staff attorney at Division Two of the Arizona Court of Appeals and is the Settlement Conference Attorney for the court's appellate mediation program.Before becoming an attorney, Geri was an elementary school teacher. She received her J.D. degree from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law in 1987, where she was an editor on the Arizona Law Review. Upon graduation, Geri served as a law clerk for Arizona Court of Appeals Judge James D. Hathaway (deceased). She was a member of the law firm of Davis, Gugino, and Piccarreta, and the Law Office of Robert L. Gugino until she joined the Court of Appeals in 1997. Geri has taught numerous seminars on court-sponsored mediation and appellate practice. She is a native of Chicago.
