This presentation explores the distinctive characteristics of sex trafficking for persons who are incarcerated. Incarcerated women are at a unique risk for sex trafficking due to publicly released information about them (photos, charges). Jails and prisons in Arizona allow for anyone to put money on someone’s jail/prison account and create a debt owed. Also, sex traffickers can communicate to the outside to recruit and run sex trafficking rings as well as use their jail/prison account to launder money. Faculty discusses how jail and prison staff can detect these behaviors and protect potential or known victims.
