Does your client need basic estate planning using a Will and General Power of Attorney? Or should you recommend a comprehensive plan involving a Living Trust?  This program will not only give you the tools to answer those questions, it will cover the consequences of bad or no planning.  Additionally, you will get a refresher course on the pros and cons of alternative solutions such as Beneficiary Deeds, Small Estate Affidavits, and more.

Mr. Shawn Garner is the managing partner at Deason Garner & Hansen Law Firm, where he focuses his practice in the areas of Medicaid, Trusts, and Probate. Mr. Garner earned his Bachelor of Science degree, Summa Cum Laude, from Colorado State University in 2005, followed by his Juris Doctorate from the University of Kentucky Law School in 2008. In 2008, he acquired his law license for both Arizona State and Federal Courts. He obtained his financial planning license (Series 65, Series 66, Series 7) and life insurance (Arizona) licenses in 2015. Furthermore, he became a licensed fiduciary through the Arizona Supreme Court in 2016 and a licensed realtor in 2019. Mr. Garner began his practice as an exclusive estate planning attorney in 2012. Over the years, he has drafted over 5000 wills and trusts. His experience extends to trust administration, probate, and ALTCS/Medicaid matters. Mr. Garner has been a partner Deason Garner & Hansen since 2013. Additionally, he is a Professional Alliance Partner with Ameriprise Financial since 2016 and has been a partner at DGH Realty, a Real Estate Brokerage, since 2019. Mr. Garner has conducted over 100 seminars for the public on various elder law topics and is a frequent speaker for continuing legal education courses. He hosts a weekly radio show and podcast titled "Life Death and the Law." In the professional sphere, he is an active member of the Probate and Trust Executive Council (PATEC) for the State Bar of Arizona, where he has held positions such as Secretary (2020) and Chair Elect (2023). Furthermore, Mr. Garner is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) since 2013, serving on the Board of the Arizona Chapter in 2021 and 2022. Mr. Garner was raised in Sandpoint, Idaho. He is married with six children. He enjoys spending time on his small family farm, camping, boating, and off-road adventures in the desert.
