One Year Later: How Voir Dire Has Changed After the Elimination of Peremptory Challenges

On January 1, 2022, Arizona became the first American jurisdiction to eliminate peremptory challenges. One year after it took effect, litigators are still grappling with the new rule’s impact on voir dire and jury selection. In this seminar, a panel of seasoned trial attorneys and trial judges will discuss the history of the rule change and how it has caused their perspectives on voir dire and trial craft techniques to evolve. Additionally, Arizona Supreme Court Staff Attorney John Rogers will briefly address any new rules taking effect at the beginning of the year and any rule change petition of note.
